Can you believe it’s already 2019?! I’m thrilled to have you joining me for this first episode of the new year. And in honor of one of the most common New Year’s resolutions, we’re going to talk weight loss. While this might seem like an unusual topic for this podcast, I’ve learned that the way we feel about ourselves affects everything that we do. Losing weight boosts confidence and helps us feel more courageous!
Last New Year’s, I set a goal to lose 25 pounds and get into the best shape of my life. For the first few months of the year, I was on fire! But then I ended up with a stress fracture. One thing led to another, and the weight crept back on. In August, I got serious again! I ended up starting the keto diet, and you guys, it seriously changed my life. My husband joined me on the diet, and lost so much weight that he’s at the lowest weight he’s been since we’ve known each other.
I’ve been getting a ton of questions about it, so I want to take this episode to dive into some of the essential steps to getting started with keto, and to clear up some of the confusion around it. The first step is to get clear about what keto means, and how it works! I’ll explain the basics of ketosis, and talk about the transition period (which can be pretty miserable).
Once you’ve gotten through the transition period, it takes five to six weeks for your body to become fat-adapted. This feels incredible! Once I became fat-adapted, I had tons of energy and felt amazing. Best of all, at this stage it’s often possible to add more carbs, so I can have some wine or dark chocolate again.
Tune into this episode to learn more! I’ll talk about how to get started with keto, some great recommendations for resources, whether my kids are also on a keto diet, what we eat over the course of a typical week, and much more. If you want to lose weight, change your diet, and find more energy, this is the episode for you!

Hi Anne,
The recipe that Ruth uses to make her KETO bagels is from this blog-https://www.wholesomeyum.com/recipes/low-carb-bagels-with-almond-flour-keto-gluten-free-5-ingredients/ They are so good!!
I love intermittent fasting. I do a 16 hour fast. I have lost 20 pounds just doing that and cutting carbs. This was some great info about KETO, I feel like I am doing a modified KETO. 🙂
Way to go Arlene!! That is awesome!! You are rocking it!!
Thank you for all the info! I would like to try this for my husband (as I use a different eating plan), but I am concerned about increasing his cholesterol levels. I know you mentioned tests to find out if you are in ketosis, but have you found your cholesterol levels are in a healthy range? I know that will vary depending on what people are eating but that is my main concern for him. Thank you so much. PS. I love your podcast!!
