EP 23: How to Escape the Comparison Trap

Welcome to Do It Scared™ podcast! In every episode of this podcast, we’ll talk about how to face your fears, overcome obstacles, and create a life you love! If you’re ready to finally escape the comparison trap that is keeping you stuck, this is the episode for you! Many of us get so stuck in comparing our lives to other people’s that we forget to celebrate the progress that we’ve made on our journey.

Once a year, at the beginning of March, we open up public enrollment for Elite Blog Academy for just five days. For the first few weeks, the enthusiasm of those new students is off the charts! There’s a sense of infinite possibility in the air. By mid-April, though, that enthusiasm starts to wear off. Building any successful business is a LOT of work, and blogging is no exception. Most of our students figure this out, and those are the students who tend to eventually succeed.

A few students each year, though, fall into the trap of comparison. They start comparing their ideas to everyone else’s, start doubting themselves, and notice that other students are moving through the lessons faster. Instead of focusing on their own work, they start looking for answers elsewhere, all to avoid the fear that they might be missing something. In the process, they get so much conflicting advice that they get paralyzed with indecision. They spend so much time looking at everyone else around them that they can’t focus on doing their own work.

Just like those students in Elite Blog Academy, the more you look around to see what everyone else is doing, the less success you’ll be able to create in your own life (and the less satisfied you’ll be). Luckily, there are three practical techniques that you can use when you find yourself falling into the trap of comparing yourself to others. Tune into the episode to learn what these techniques are and how to apply them in your own life!
