EP 45: So You Want to Start Your Own Business

Welcome to the Do It Scared™ podcast! In every episode of this podcast, we’ll talk about how to face your fears, overcome obstacles, and create a life you love!

Are you ready to start your own business?! If so, this episode is just for you! I’ll be taking a deep dive into entrepreneurship, and exploring the 5 rules you absolutely need to know before starting your own business. Finding the courage to start your own business can be tough, but knowing these five rules will help you achieve your goals and make your business a success.

You may not know this, but I was raised in an entrepreneurial family. My dad grew up really poor, but worked his way up through creating his own businesses until he was really successful, even while supporting five kids. I always had a drive to work and make money! Listen to the episode to hear about the various jobs I’ve worked, which range from babysitting and housekeeping to managing stores and working on making a day spa profitable.

Unfortunately, my attempts with the day spa did not go well. It was a huge defeat that left me frustrated and bitter. In hindsight, though, that experience made starting my own business easier because it taught me to think about failure, mistakes, and running a business in a whole new way! In fact, what it taught me is the first of today’s five rules.

If you’re thinking of starting a business, you’ll need to make some mindset shifts like this too. These are related to the five rules I mentioned before! Ready to learn what they are?

  1. There are no mistakes, only lessons.
  2. It’s not personal, it’s business.
  3. Remember that no one else knows what they’re doing either.
  4. Look for a role model, not a rescuer.
  5. Just start!

Tune into this episode to learn all about these powerful rules and how they can help you create your new business and live a life you’ll love!
